Businesses and organisations
Why set up a company car share scheme?
Whether you work for a company, charity or other type of organisation, whether your office is big or small, whether you're based in an urban area or in the countryside, car-sharing can help you in a number of ways.
Getting large (or small) numbers of people to the office can be costly in terms of money and time. Where public transport is limited many staff may choose to drive to work, thereby increasing congestion and pollution, and putting pressure on local parking facilities.
These problems can be addressed through the introduction of a car sharing scheme. Corporate car-sharing schemes here at kentcarshare will:
- Reduce CO2 emissions and pollution
- Provide a cheap way for staff /or visitors to get to and from the office
- Reduce levels of traffic and congestion
- Reduce pressure on car-parking facilities
- Improve relations with the local community
- Widen the recruitment catchment area for staff
- Improve your corporate image
- Form a key part of your Travel Plan
If many of your staff use a car to commute to work - perhaps because they travel from a wide area, or public transport links are poor - a car share scheme may be ideal for your company.

New Ways 2 Work
New Ways 2 Work is a scheme that encourages businesses and employees to rethink the way they use cars for work - for commuting and for business travel.
The main aim of the scheme is to reduce the number of cars on the road - particularly cars with a single occupant. If we can do this, then the roads will be less congested, journeys will be faster, and less money and time will be wasted in traffic.
There are steps organisations can take. You can ask us to help you set up a comprehensive Company Travel Plan.
Or you could start by setting up a car sharing scheme.
New Ways 2 Work will help companies and organisations to:
- save space on parking
- reduce transport costs
- ease the congestion around their premises
- get fitter and more motivated staff
- fulfil planning requirements
- enhance the corporate image
What's more, employees will be able to:
- improve their fitness, be less stressed and be more productive
- save money on petrol and parking
- save time lost in traffic or trying to parking
Plus we'll all be able to help the environment by causing less pollution, and ease the impact of peak-time traffic and parking on the local community.
Other initiative such as Walk, Bike and Taxi Buddy are also available
Kent County Council's own Travel Plan for County Hall, as part of the New Ways 2 Work initiative, won the ACT (Association of Commuter Transport) Award in 2004
